Intestinal ultrasound scan LIM Medical Center in Cracow has extended its offer to include a unique examination – intestinal ultrasound scan, which enables an early diagnosis of inflammatory conditions of the intestines and exacerbation of inflammatory conditions before developing clinical symptoms. As is commonly known, the sooner illness is diagnosed the more effective its treatment is.
Endoscopy is still standard practice in diagnosing intestinal conditions - encompassing gastrocopy and colonoscopy with the biopsy of tissue samples for a histopathological examination. However, in the majority of cases it is worth carrying out an auxiliary examination – intestinal ultrasound scan, which is not commonly known by doctors. The examination is non-invasive – being more comfortable for patients. It enables to assess in a non-invasive manner the thickness of mucous and under mucous membranes and the whole wall of the intestines. The method also enables to show the level and extent of illness-affected areas, make a tentative diagnosis, and provides information for the doctor where the problem is.
If you happen to have any of the symptoms such as abdominal pains, chronic diarrhoea, chronic constipation or pathological stools, you should undergoe such examination before the visit to the doctor-specialist. The doctor may recommend the examination, among other things, where there is a suspicion of intestinal inflammatory conditions (Leśniowski-Crohn’s disease, colitis ulcerosa, intestinal polypsosis or IBS – irritable bowel syndrome), in suspected exacerbation of the previously diagnosed intestinal inflammatory conditions, intestinal obstruction, features of intestinal hypersecretion as well as in stomach cancer and intestinal tumours. Intestinal ultrasound scan is useful in distinguishing coeliac disease from food allergies, as well as in diagnosing the intestinal narrowings caused by external pressure or inflammatory conditions of the intestinal wall resulting in the problems with passing stools. It is also useful in the diagnosis of appendicitis. The examination does not require of the patient any special preparation, and what is important is that he or she does not have to be on an empty stomach. It is even recommended to have a light meal and drink a glass of non-fizzy water two hours before the examination. The meal should not include meat or foods that produce flatulence, or fizzy drinks. Intestinal ultrasound scan is available at LIM Medical Center in Cracow - at the outpatient clinic in 64 Al.Słowackiego. For more information please call (012) 632 90 77. The examination is not included in standard abdominal ultrasound scan that makes part of a routine check-up, and costs zl. 150.
