Restylane, Restylane Fine Lines, Perlane
1. What are Restylane, Restylane Fine Lines, Perlane? Those are preparations used to smoothen wrinkles and folds as well as to model the face with fillers. The preparations contain the same natural substance which exists in our organism - hyaluronate. In NASHA preparations, the acid is produced biosynthetically through bacteria fermentation, thus there is no risk of allergic reactions.
2. How does hyaluronate work? Molecules of hyaluronate bind water and in effect improve skin ?tension? by increasing the capacity of the tissue in the place of filling.
3. What happens to Restylane and derivatives after injection? The preparations are subject to natural biodegradation in our organism without any traces.
4. What are the differences between the following preparations: Restylane Fine Lines, Restylane, Perlane? The basic difference is the size of the particles. In order to obtain an optimum filling effect, it is necessary to suit the size of the particles to the density of intercellular substance at a given depth of injection - they should not be to small and they should not penetrate through the network of intracellular fibres, or they should not be too large so that they would not press on the intercellular structure. Restylane Fine Lines - with the smallest particles - applied on the surface to smoothen wrinkles. Restylane - applied to smoothen deeper wrinkles and to bring out the lips. Perlane - with largest particles, applied to model the face.
Contraindications: Before the treatment it is necessary to talk to a doctor in order to discuss the patient?s expectations and to mutually exclude potential contraindications, such as: pregnancy, lactation, a bacterial or virus skin disease, haemorrhagic diathesis, some previous aesthetic treatment (e.g. other implants).
5. Treatment - practically painless, sometimes requires local anaesthesia, - duration - about 30 minutes, - preparations Restylane and derivative are implanted intradermally (thus they have a real impact on skin condition contrary to preparations applied subcutaneously), - effect immediate though not final, - a final treatment may be required in 2-4 weeks to obtain a fully satisfactory effect.
6. How long are the effects? - this depends on many factors, e.g. age of the patients, life style, place of correction, - wrinkles, grooves and folds - usually another treatment is recommended after 6-12 months, - lips - usually another treatment is recommended after about 6 months, - repeated treatment prolongs the effects of the first treatment.
7. Can there be any complications after the treatment? Restylane and its derivatives practically do not produce any complications. However, after injection of the preparation there may be symptoms relating to the injection, like swelling, reddening, pain, itch, decolouration or local tenderness. They usually disappear spontaneously in 1-2 days after an injection in the skin and within a week after an injection in the lips. Other reactions occur very rarely (1 out of 2,000 patients). This is usually swelling at the injection place, sometimes in the tissues around the implant. Sometimes there is reddening, tenderness and eruptions similar to acne. Such symptoms may occur within a few days or even a few weeks (2-4 weeks) from the treatment and disappear usually after about 2 weeks.
