Cellulite
Cellulite Majority of women have cellulite. Usually appears after the puberty period, during pregnancy, often accompanied by obesity. It is a long-term process. Cellulite affects few man, and if at all, it is much less noticeable. Often used name is cellulitis, but it is an incorrect one. The name 'cellulitis' sprang in France in the 20th of the 20 century, when it was mistakenly taken for an result of subcutaneous tissue inflammation. With cellulite, changes consist in tumid-fibro-sclerosis changes in fatty tissue. At present, cellulite is not an illness in general, however, advanced cellulite may be an indication of serious pathological changes in an organism. So far, cellulite advancement has been divided into four phases, according to the four-step changes intensity scale. The a/m scale is based mainly on clinical picture: - „0” when skin is squeezed (pinch test) dimpling appears mainly on hips, tights, buttocks, belly, arms and around nipples
- „1” dimpling appears spontaneously after tensing one's muscles
- „2” irregular, sometimes painful lumps forming in the subcutaneous tissue (leopard skin)
- „3” bigger lumps formed by fatty tissue lobules, separated with fibrous tissue.
Advanced cellulite is usually accompanied with lymphostasis and problems with blood flow. Proper cell nutrition and removal of metabolism harmful products are disturbed. The reasons of cellulite are multifold and differ from person to person. The most frequent are: hormonal imbalance (advantage of estrogens with lack of progesterone) - hormonal imbalance (too high level of estrogens and too low level of progesterone). That is the reason why, cellulite happens mainly to women, even slim and fit. Cellulite development may be triggered by long-term usage of contraceptives and HST.
- sedentary life style
- coffee, alcohol, cigarettes
- bad eating habits: eating too much sugar (and sugar-containing products), salt, sausages, smoked and pickled meat, fried food, white bread
- genetics
- body constitution, cellulite affects mainly persons with pyknic body type, that is stocky with never ending overweight problems
- to tight clothes, high heel shoes
- lipid metabolisms disorders in fatty cells caused by genetic predispositions, or resulting from general metabolism disorders (i.e. diabetes) or too high intake of fats in food.
Cellulite treatment should start as soon as possible and although we have to remember that cellulite may not be removed completely it may be stopped from progressing further. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as one miraculous treatment. The best effects are achieved through application of a few, different methods, change of lifestyle and diet. As with the majority of people, cellulite seems to be genetically inherited, the main condition of successful cellulite treatment is regularity. That is why, results of treatment vary from person to person, and even a successful treatment required further prophylactics. Measures recommended in cellulite prophylactics and treatment include: - change of diet (if incorrect), body weight control, physical activity,
- application of creams (there are controversies over the efficiency of anti-cellulite creams but there is one thing that we know for sure, long –term application of cream may moisturise and smooth out skin surface. The best method of cream application is intensive rubbing in.
Creams contain compaounds which work in various ways. For example iodine and its compounds have lipotic action. They activate lipase and counteract formation of lipids in fatty cells. Cream manufacturers use mainly sodium iodine, seaweeds extracts, iodine protein – extensine, iodized collagen. Other components, such as plant and synthetic flavonoids (i.e. rutine), plant saponines (i.e. escine) regulate increased permeability of capillaries, haemostasis and oedema. Additionally, the anti-cellulite preparations very often contain plant extracts, some aminoacids (i.e. carnitine) and a number of other substances. - oral drugs used in microcirculation disorders, the so-called anti-cellulite supplements, which are very helpful, but as they contain iodine, must be treated with extra care by persons suffering from thyroid gland diseases.
- aesthetic medicine procedures, including but not limited to:
- guam, body wrap i hannan-body, which consists in covering body with blood circulation stimulating preparations and then wrapping it up in foil in order to enhance therapeutic results.
- lymphatic drainage performed manually or by means of special sleeves put on the lower extremities
- endermology, which is a kind of massage with the use of a special apparatus
- vacuum pump massage
- application of ultrasounds which stimulate penetration of skin by active components and break down fat.
- electrostimulation by means of low frequency current
- lasertherapy with the use of a special laser, the light of which penetrates body to the depth of up to 6 cm.
- combined therapies; one machine may have a multidirectional affect, i.e. Body M ix machine acts by means of infrared waves, vacuum massage, photostimulation and cryotherapy, whereas Tri-Active machine is equipped with a diode laser, massaging tip and skin cooling tip. The laser stimulates blood circulations and production of new blood vessels, increased lymph flow, smoothes out skin, improves blood circulation. Cryotherapy removes swallowing.
Apart from that a client may take advantage of capsules with automatic massage (or without it) and infrared light. - carboxytherapy consists in infiltration of carbon dioxide under the skin by means of a special apparatus, which quickens metabolism and fat removal.
- mesotherapy consists in multiple injections of preparations which stimulate cell metabolism
- electrolipolysis consists in breaking up of fat lumps forming under the skin .
- plastic surgery such as liposuction and skin lift.
